1) Sam Smith – Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas

A beautiful song in its own right, this is only made even more magical by the incredible Sam Smith. That acapella introduction is just stunning.

2) Coldplay – Miracles

Great new track from Coldplay.

3) Chris Rea – Driving home for Christmas

One of my favourite Christmas songs of all time. Jazzy, laid back, meaningful, it’s a fantastic song.

4) Greg Lake – I believe in Father Christmas

A song that I love more and more every time I hear it. One of the most underrated Christmas songs around.

5) Take That – Believe

This keeps growing on me and I really love it! Sounds like something that would have appeared on Mark’s 2013 solo album ‘The Art of Doing Nothing’ but with Take That’s gorgeous harmonies.

6) Sam Smith – Restart

This was one of my songs of the summer. Catchy and utterly irresistible.

7) The Beach Boys – Little Saint Nick

The harmonies on this track are just amazing. One of the best Christmas songs around.

8) Robbie Williams – Walk This Sleigh

An unconventional Christmas song, performed in a way only possible by Mr Robbie Williams!

9) Take That – Freeze

Emotive, with a 1980’s pop sound. Love it.

10) Bruno Mars & Mark Ronson – Uptown Funk

Catchy, fun and everything pop music should be about.

1) Robbie Williams – No One likes a fat popstar

One of many songs that highlights Robbie’s genius. Witty, well-written lyrics that poke fun at the media and those fond of food, its self deprecation style is actually a little sad too. Love the merry-go-round feel of the verses and the operatic chorus. Awesome song.

2) B.o.B & Hayley Williams – Airplanes

Still an absolute tune, I really love the lyrics to this song. Hayley Williams has an incredible voice and B.o.B is a great artist.

3) U2- I still haven’t found what I’m looking for

A song that will forever be relevant to many people a little lost in life. An all time rock-classic.

4) The Magician ft Years & Years– Sunlight

A song reminiscent of early 2000’s house, this is one of the best dance tracks in years. So catchy and SO damn good.

5) Take That – These Days

They’re finally back after a three year hiatus! Take That’s new track is a rather camp, poppy, danceable track which is destined to be a hit. Love the 1980’s feel and the blend of their voices together. Awesome song.

6) Coldplay – Always in my head

A melancholic, chilled song that’s utterly beautiful.

7) John Mayer – Belief

I honestly believe this is one of the greatest songs ever written. Incredible lyrics and the last minute or so is just sheer power. Amazing.

8) Coldplay – 0 (Fly on)

A stunning end to Coldplay’s incredible ‘Ghost Stories’ album. ‘Just a flock of birds is how you think of love’ – what a line.

9) Mark Owen – Falling Star

A song featured only as a bonus track on the Japanese edition of Owen’s 2005 ‘How the mighty fall’ album. It’s a song which proves quite how underrated Mark Owen’s solo career is and this should have been on the standard edition of the album. Utterly stunning.

10) Calvin Goldspink – Grown Up

A great, great song by Calvin Goldspink who, many years ago, was a member of the S Club Juniors (or S Club 8).

1) One Direction – Fireproof

There’s been a bit of a mixed reaction to this track which was made available for free for 24 hours this week. It’s a lot more mature with a soft beat and gorgeous harmonies and I absolutely love it. Such a great song.

2) Favela – Easy Yoke

Found this on a Spotify placement I was listening to yesterday and have listened to it over and over since. Such a beautiful song. Very spaced out and the strings are just stunning.

3) The 1975 – Heart Out

I’ve loved this since I purchased The 1975’s début album almost a year ago but the release of the video last week has given the song a new lease of life for me. So catchy it’s unreal and I love the saxophone break.

4) Ten Walls – Walking with elephants

Been hearing this on the radio a lot lately and I really love it. It’s great to have a classic instrumental club track in the charts.

5) Nina Nesbitt – Two worlds away

Found this completely by accident and have fallen in love. Such a pretty acoustic-based song.

6) John Mayer – Say

One of John’s more underrated efforts and one I feel even he neglects sometimes. This was written for and appeared in the movie ‘The Bucket List’ although I came to know it through the modern re-adaptation of ‘The Karate Kid’ a few years back. It’s the song that got me into John Mayer and it’s so pretty. It’s one of the most inspiring songs and I just love it so, so much.

7) Coldplay – True love

Hauntingly beautiful. Love this.

8) George Ezra – Barcelona

This man is such a talent. Really love this song.

9) George Ezra – Song 3

Another incredible song off George’s debut album. Awesome.

10) Beck – Morning

I went and saw ‘If I stay’ at the cinema the other day and this appeared in the movie. I instantly fell in love with the soft guitars and the haunting melody. Such a haunting, stunnning song.

1)      John Mayer – Something’s Missing

I can SO relate to this song sometimes. When you wonder exactly why you are feeling down when, in fact, you are lucky.

2)      Keith Urban – Sweet Thing

Found this through watching a concert Keith & John Mayer did together a few years back. I can’t get enough of this song right now, so uplifting! Really fallen in love with Keith’s music.

3)      Fleetwood Mac – Gypsy

My favourite Fleetwood Mac song. Just love the idea, the lyrical content and the beautiful harmonies. They are an incredible band.

4)      The Common Linnets – Calm After The Storm

Yes, sounding like ‘Every breath you take’ aside, it’s a very beautiful song. I missed Eurovision this year but checked out this song because of the controversy. Love it.

5)      Paloma Faith – Stargazer

Love Paloma and this is a great song.

6)      Zero 7 – Destiny

Always reminds me of summer – so smooth, so beautiful and an incredible song.

7)      Robbie Williams – Deceptacon

So hauntingly beautiful it’s unreal. Underrated track by far.

8)      Bombay Bicycle Club – Feel

This is an incredible song. Pays homage to Indian music but in a way that makes it mainstream. So damn catchy.

9)      Coldplay – Stawberry Swing

Just love this, I really do. It’s the instrumentation – so unique.

10)   Foster the people – Pumped up kicks

Irresistible. So catchy 🙂

Music Monday – Volume Nine

1)      Snow Patrol – Just Say Yes

Forgot what an incredible song this is. Been listening to it loads this week – so catchy, so honest and so different from what Snow Patrol normally do. Love it and I love them.

2)      The Castro Family/The 1975 – Chocolate

Everyone knows Chocolate is one of my all time favourite songs. I usually hate YouTube covers as people tend to make it into a ballad which just doesn’t work. Part of its charm is the catchiness! LOVE this interpretation though! A little cheesy but love the harmonies and the arrangement.

3)      Roxette – Wish I could fly

One of the most beautiful songs ever and one of my all time favourites. So underrated. Love the pairing of the orchestra and drum machine. Special song for me.

4)      Genesis – Throwing it all away

This kept coming on during Shuffle and I love it so much! Love Genesis and Phil Collins anyway but I’m really enjoying this song at the moment.

5)      Prince – Purple Rain

Prince is one of my music heroes. This is so depressing and so long but sometimes it’s so necessary! It’s an incredible song, very emotive and powerful and the length is needed. I used to think it was perhaps too long but these days I appreciate the whole piece. Electric.

 

6)      The Vamps – Another World

I dismissed The Vamps a while ago but I gave their album a listen and I really love it! The second half in particular. I can’t get enough of this song at the moment. Generic maybe but very beautiful.

7)      R. Kelly – Happy People

I remember hearing this on the car journey home from a theme park when I was around ten years old. It’s just such a smooth, happy song that always makes me feel great. R.Kelly is a musical genius.

8)      Coldplay – Oceans

SO in love with this and so excited for the album. Very beautiful and very reminiscent of the Parachutes era.

9)      Keane  – Bedshaped

So, so beautiful. Keane are one of my favourite bands and this song is just stunning. Love the video too.

10)   George Michael – Kissing a fool

Only found this recently but I love it! So jazzy, so chilled. Definitely one of George’s more underrated songs.

1)      The Blue Nile – The Downtown lights

I’ve loved this song for a while after discovering Annie Lennox’s cover. I love both versions equally and it’s an incredible song. Reminds me of an evening road trip. Very underrated track

2)      Keane – She has no time

Been listening to a lot of Keane again recently. Tom Chaplin’s voice is absolutely gorgeous, as is this song. Very beautiful

3)      Coldplay – We never change

I’m really addicted to this. I checked out the Parachutes album for the first time last week and have fallen in love with it. This song is just stunning. I really love the lyrics

4)      Coldplay – Everything’s not lost

Another gorgeous track off Parachutes.

5)      Coldplay – Trouble

Just gorgeous.

6)      John Mayer – Speak for me

The melody for the verses is perhaps one of the best I have ever heard. It’s just such a sing-song melody. The gorgeous weather always makes me want to listen to John’s ‘Born and Raised’ and ‘Paradise Valley’ albums as they’re just so chilled out and happy.

7)      John Mayer – A face to call home

This begins as another chilled-out country themed track like the rest of the Born & Raised album but in the last minute or so, it turns into a very Coldplay-inspired track. Love the lyrics to this.

8)      Disclosure – F for you

Love Disclosure so much. Add a bit of Mary J Blige and a masterpiece is created. Awesome track.

9)      The 1975 – What makes you beautiful

I’m a big fan of the original too but The 1975 completely turned the track on its head and created something very beautiful.

10)      Prince – Wherever u go, whatever u do

Very generic for a Prince song, I’ve seen these chords in many other pop tracks but I just think it’s a really sweet song.

Presenting Music Mondays

In order to keep myself blogging and to share my love of music, I am going to begin a series of blogs called Music Mondays. Music Mondays will feature a playlist of ten songs I am currently loving. Some may be new releases whilst others may be older but they will all be songs that I am listening to over and over again.

So with no further ado, here’s this week’s playlist!

1) Arctic Monkeys – Why’d you only call me when you’re high

Just amazingly catchy and so damn cool.

2) Toby Burke and George Michael – Waltz away dreaming

A George Michael song I had no idea existed until a scroll through his complete Discography. This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

3) The 1975 – Head.Cars.Bending

Glitchy, energetic – awesome song.

4) The 1975 – Pressure

I always overlooked this track on the album but recently I’ve fallen in love with it – very catchy and the lyrics are awesome.

5) Jake Bugg – Songs about love

Not overly keen on all of Jake’s stuff but he’s incredibly talented. Keep hearing this on the radio and it’s definitely my favourite track by him. Very acoustic based and a beautiful song.

6) Eric Clapton – Change the world

Was reminded of this when I found a video of Andy Brown (lead singer of Lawson) covering it on YouTube. Such a great acoustic based track which makes me smile a lot.

7) Neil Young – Harvest Moon

Heard this when watching the movie Eat Pray Love the other day and instantly fell in love with it. Very soft and very romantic. 

8) Clean Bandit ft Jess Glynne – Rather be

There’s something very unique about this track and I love that. It’s so catchy and so upbeat, I really love it.

9) Beyonce – XO

This has had a lot of stick but it’s my favourite track Beyonce has ever done. I agree that lyrically it’s not the best and it’s quite generic for a Beyonce song but I find it really powerful, really emotive and very addictive. 

10) Coldplay – Magic

This was only released to the world today so this is brand spanking new! Again, it’s had a lot of stick from Coldplay fans about the change in music direction but I love this. I love Coldplay’s older stuff and I also love their newer sound too. I love this because it’s very chilled out and very special. I’ve already listened to this countless times today!

Day 12 Coldplay – Christmas Lights

Not enough artists release Christmas songs any more and if they do, they’re always less than average covers that were probably recorded in less than a day with minimal effort. That’s why original, modern songs like these are so special.

This is just a really beautiful song. I love how it starts relatively sad, yet changes rhythm and tone half way through, becoming more optimistic. It always reminds me of a Christmas song that could have been released in the 1970’s for some reason.
